Taking a leap of faith
Boy, oh boy, does a good critique group help find the faults in a new writing. I dug out an old short story that I like that was written about two years ago. I couldn't decide if first person or third person should tell the tale of a new prison system in 2035. I used third person even though I thought first person would worked. I learned I should have listened to myself because the group felt that first person was the route to follow. A good critique group gives so much to a writer and allows a writer to learn from others and to spot potential improvements in other people's writing.

One Writer's Life
Blogging is the new way to "talk" to others who want to learn about writers or writing. Thankfully, I love to talk. I'm a 'late bloomer' in entering the writing life and I'm loving to learn the neccessary techniques to create a novel or short stories. The what if game is so much fun to play. Wherever I go, I can play this game since it only involves thinking. When driving, I notice license plates like 929 AVM. That can be turned into an adress like 929 Avenue M. Then I get to dream up a house and family to occupy it or create a business that is ready to go world wide. Bottom line, it's all in the details and how they can become something in a story waiting to be told.
